Between elements of farce, comic and tragic opera, low and high style, Giovanni moves and makes himself the projection screen for the women he desires. The sequence of scenes is bracketed by Giovanni’s murder of Donna Anna’s father and his return as a dead person. He wants to make Don Giovanni regret his actions – which he refuses. So it remains unclear who is the loser in this duel, because Giovanni’s intellectual defiance is unbroken.
