Based on Heinrich Heine’s tale of the mysterious Wilis, “Giselle” tells of young brides betrayed in love and taken before their wedding day. Their restless spirits rise from the grave at night, driven by an endless desire to dance, and any man who crosses their path is danced to death. The Vienna State Ballet performs the work in a production created by Elena Tschernischova, distinguished by a striking visual concept: performers in bold signal colours set against a monochrome grey backdrop.
