Daniele Gatti conducts three works of late Romanticism that depict existential moments: In “Verklärte Nacht,” Arnold Schoenberg uses expressive language to describe the emotional state of a couple in love during a nighttime walk. Richard Strauss’ “Tod und Verklärung” reflects the emotions and visions of a dying person. The opera “Tristan und Isolde,” composed by Richard Wagner, embodies passionate love, finding its ultimate fulfilment in death.
