In Verdi’s “Rigoletto”, the tragic story of the hunchbacked court jester Rigoletto is told, as he tries to protect the innocence of his daughter Gilda from the seductive advances of the Duke of Mantua. In Bartlett Sher’s production, the setting is moved to 1920s Europe, with the set design by Michael Yeargan and costumes by Catherine Zuber reflecting the Art Deco style of the era.
