In Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Aida”, the Ethiopian princess Aida, who lives as a prisoner of war in Egypt, is torn between her love for the Egyptian general Radamès and her loyalty to her homeland. In 2023, the Vienna State Opera presented a revival of Nicolas Joël’s 1984 production. The set, featuring monumental Egyptian fragments and opulent costumes, reflects the historical grandeur of ancient Egypt.
