In a gloomy village shortly after the Thirty Years’ War, young clerk Max loves the forester’s daughter Agathe. To marry her, he must submit to an archaic custom and pass a test shot – but as an inexperienced marksman, this seems impossible. In Philipp Stölzl’s production on the Bregenz Seebühne, the devil Samiel takes on the role of the narrator, set in a distorted winter world.
