It is the most famous ballet of all time: the tragic story of Prince Siegfried and the Swan Princess Odette. The epitome of the romantic dance fairy tale is still the St. Petersburg choreography with which Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov did justice to Tchaikovsky’s groundbreaking score in 1895 – a version that served the exceptional dancer Rudolf Nureyev, who died 30 years ago, in 1964 as the basis for his Viennese “Swan Lake”.
