“Persinette” was the original form of a French folk tale that became known in German-speaking countries as “Rapunzel” by the Brothers Grimm. Commissioned by the Vienna State Opera, the composer Albin Fries and the librettist Birgit Mathon created a three-act fairytale opera whose content essentially follows the popular fairytale about the long-haired girl on the tower. Albin Fries writes music in a tonal late-Romantic style.
