“Fidelio” is the only opera by Ludwig van Beethoven, the first version of which was premiered on 20 November 1805 at the Theater an der Wien. For the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, the very same opera at the very same place (with Nicole Chevalier as Leonore/Fidelio and Eric Cutler as Florestan) was planned to become a highlight in the Austrian cultural calendar – due to Corona, however, it was not accessible in a live performance, but via streaming and to festival audiences. The opera was staged by Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, with Manfred Honeck conducting the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
