“Adriana Lecouvreur” must have a superior cast and conductor to succeed; the MET is providing that. Sir David McVicar’s production — a co-production between the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, London, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, Wiener Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera and L’Opéra National de Paris — brings the world of the theatre to vivid life, with all of the drama playing out in a working replica of a Baroque playhouse. The opera is at its core a torturous love triangle. Anna Netrebko, Piotr Beczała and Anita Rachvelishvili claim their respective roles in a way that makes the drama bristle with passion and danger.
